Hello, my name is Rahma Athie I am half Senegalese and half Mauritanian. I am a student at University of Cincinnati pursuing my bachelors in communication with inspiration of becoming a social worker and public relations. I love playing sports, singing, dancing, and most importantly helping children. As an adventurous as aspiring young lady on the journey to greatness I remain humble yet outspoken with a strong sense of determination. I am a strong supporter of youth development and will continuously improve myself. I have been chosen as finalist to participate in Miss Africa USA pageant 2015 representing Mauritania and Africa as a nation. Miss Africa USA pageant is about empowering young beautiful women that wants to enlighten Africa. I know so many people think pageants is just about beauty but it's more than that, it's about coming together as Africans and helping those in need. I am participating in this pageant because I want to help orphan children's in Mauritania and Africa to have a better life and enjoy their fundamental rights.

The situation of children in Mauritania is far from satisfactory. These orphan children's are unable to enjoy the happiness and innocence of their childhood, due to poverty. With so many responsibilities on their little shoulders, they cannot grow or play without the risk of serious consequences that may follow. Poverty deprives children of their fundamental right to life. In addition it deprives them from educational opportunities. Education is human right which ought to be accessible to everyone, without any discrimination. All children must be able to go school and thereby benefit from the same opportunities to build a future. Additionally educational instruction must be equally gratuitous so that children from disadvantaged environment will be able to enjoy their right to an education. I am simply a girl who wants to be included and involved in helping the children in need.

Please join me. As I always say if you have the power to make someone happy, DO IT. The world needs more of that!!

I am also searching for sponsors/sponsorship if you would like to be part of this create journey with me please feel free to email me at (riimapeul@gmail.com)

I have no words other than bravo and thank you!
Once again, the strength and creativity of MFAGC, its board, and its members, helped make this  past weekend’s dinner event a huge success!
So, I would like to thank everyone who participated, including all who invested their time and generosity in organizing the event, and all who attended and supported the effort.  Every one of you contributed to achieving this success.
I’d like to extend my gratitude to Dr. Moustapha Saleck Senhoury and his family for their visit and good humor.
In addition, I convey a warm thank you to the Mauritanian Association of Louisville, KY, and its president, Mohmed Aly Ould Yahya!
Finally, a special mention and many thanks go to the delegation of the Senegalese Association of Cincinnati.
Today, I am proud and pleased to chair an organization which inspires all forces to work together so effectively; and I encourage you to share in that pride with me as this was a great success that is your own as members of the forward evolving MFAGC!
Again, thanks to all,

 President.

UPDATES

2/1/2015

On January 31, 2015, the Mauritanian community (MFAGC) met in a general assembly at 3668 Clifton
with the election of a new executive office for the association. Following very tense discussions,
procedures and processes to elect a new executive office were raised as issues.
The association appreciates the spirit of good tradition to allow everybody a time to speak out and
the productive discussion that took place. Here are few points that the executive want to update for
everyone.

1) On a vote of more than 51%, the General Assembly has approved a motion to postpone the
election of a new executive office to February 28, 2015
Some of the reasons given for this motion to postpone were:
Allow more of the Mauritanian community members to get involved,
Allow more time for campaign,
Allow more discussions to permit more diversities,
Allow the community rebuilding process to go forward before electing the executive office.
Clearly formulate to the community what executive functions are needed before making a
choice on the individuals to select.
Make sure candidates lists will be published a week before the election.

2) It is also important to remind everybody about some of the procedures to the election. As
approved by prior general assemblies in 2014, the association bylaws clearly specify that only
people with valid membership card can vote or be elected to the executive office.

3) The positions of the executive offices that need to be filled should be the following as approved
year ago by the general assembly:
President
President (Assistant)
Secretary General
Secretary General (Assistant)
Treasury Secretary
Audit
Cultural Officer
Cultural Officer (Assistant)
Organization & Logistics
Social Affairs
Social Affairs (Assistant).
It is advised to have the lists and its members published a week before the date of February 28, 2015 to
allow voters to know who they will be selecting on the Election Day.

END OF THE YEAR GENERAL ASSEMBLY

12/15/2014

The Mauritanian community in the Greater Cincinnati area gathered this Saturday December 13, 2014 at the Clifton Mosque for the last General Assembly of the year, during which the executive bureau presented its annual report as mandated by the bylaws of the Association. The report is available to all members of the MFAGC upon request.

The assembly also discussed and passed two amendments proposed by the Executive bureau
 - The term of any elected bureau is reduced from two to one year, effective this year.
 - Elections will follow the head-of-list procedure, whereby an entire bureau is elected at once.
These amendments have effectively ended the term of the current Executive bureau. A new bureau will be elected on January 31, 2014.

The Mauritanian Association of Greater Cincinnati recognized the following individuals for their commitment to volunteer service for the benefit of the community: Bakary Waiga, Hamadi Ould El Hedda, Mohamed Lemine Legraa, Saidou Wane and Mhamed A. Jelil.

The general assembly was honored by the presence of Immigration attorney Davis Zayas who elaborated on the Obama Immigration Act and answered several questions related to the provisions.

The MFAGC would like to thank all the members who participated at the meeting for making it a fruitful gathering, as well as all those who turned up to fulfill their membership dues.
